Science Photo of the Day

Pic308

This photo is from one of our trips to Yellowstone, a marvelous place with incredible wildlife. What is the difference between antlers and horns?

Antlers are made of bone. When the antler matures, the bone dies. They are shed and regrown every year.
Horns have a bone core, covered with a sheath of keratin and other proteins. The bone core of a horn remains alive throughout the animal's life.
