This is one of my favorite geological specimens. What is it?
These are dendrites, a structure formed by manganese oxide forming in thin cracks in limestone. They are pseudofossils, structures that are often mistaken for fossils. This one came from the Solnhofen Limestone in Germany. I have always liked pseudofossils, and have many in my collection.
