FCAT Crunch Time Draws Thousands of Florida Students, Teachers to Free Science Videos at TheHappyScientist.com

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (April 12, 2011) – Florida school students and teachers preparing for the 2011 Science FCAT have used free, online science video lessons and experiments more than 45,000 times in the past few weeks as TheHappyScientist.com, a popular website for science education, is granting free access through April 20.

From April 4-20, the public may visit TheHappyScientist.com and click on the Science FCAT Crunch Time link to receive free access to all of the site’s offerings, including more than 500 video lessons and experiments related to the Science FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test). Florida public schools will administer the science test April 19-20.

“I’m excited to see so many students and teachers using TheHappyScientist.com to prepare for the FCAT. My goal is to show students the importance of science in their daily lives. All of the lessons are fun, easy to understand and encourage students to try the experiments themselves,” said the website’s creator, Robert Krampf.

Krampf worked with the Florida Association of Science Teachers and Florida Association of Science Supervisors to grant free access to the site early for teachers to include the videos in their lesson plans for crunch time.

Scientist Robert Krampf is well-known by teachers and science museums for his creative, spark-filled energy demonstrations and online video lessons that make science fun to learn. Krampf, a former collections geologist and instructor at the Memphis Pink Palace Museum, has been featured on Late Night with David Letterman, Fantastic Facts in London, CBS This Morning, CNN and Discovery Channel’s The Know Zone.

Teachers, parents and students around the world use Krampf’s website, TheHappyScientist.com, to access a broad range of online learning on science topics. Portions of the site are free, while full access is usually reserved for subscribers including school districts, individual schools, students, teachers, homeschoolers and adults who are curious about their world.

TheHappyScientist.com attracts an average of 20,000 unique visitors each month. Krampf’s free Experiment of the Week newsletter provides hands-on activities to about 180,000 families worldwide. The Science Photo of the Day reaches more than 17,000 people each day. Krampf is based in Jacksonville, Fla. For more information, visit the website at http://TheHappyScientist.com.
