What special adaptation helps this turtle capture its food?

Answer:

If you look closely in the dark area at the front of the mouth, you will see something that looks like an earthworm. Actually, it is the turtle's tongue. Instead of lunging at its food like a Common Snapping Turtle, the Alligator Snapping Turtle opens its mouth and wiggles its tongue. Fish swim right in to eat the "worm", and wind up being a meal for the turtle.
