Floating bubbles in a natural surrounding
The 'Dunsthoehle' in Bad Pyrmont, Germany, has a natural CO2 filling and the guide there blows bubbles to show how high the CO2 stands in the cave. That differs with the temperature of the surroundings.
He can 'pour out' a candle with the gas he shovels from the cave.
The city posted a video with the guide telling things - not half as nice as you.
Thank you for sparing us a trip to Bad Pyrmont and its boring guide and showing us a way to produce the floating bubbles ourselves. Great.
Thanks for explaining! I was
Thanks for explaining! I was wondering why it didn't work. I thought maybe it was blowing the carbon dioxide out of the box.
Awesome !
Awesome videos.
Keep it up!

Floating Bubbles
Does someone have the amt. of each item to use for this exp. Having trouble opening this one. Also if you can add the dry ice piece. Would greatig appreciate it.
RE: Floating Bubbles
Try using about a cup of baking soda and a cup of vinegar. The amount depends on the size of the container you are using. The larger the container, the more chemicals you will need.
To use dry ice instead, you will need a chunk about the size of your fist, assuming that you are using a container similar to the one I use in the video. Let it sit in the container, preferably with a little hot water, until the container fills with fog, and the bubbling of the dry ice and water settles down.
Probably the most important thing is to be sure that there are no air currents. Turn off all fans, air conditioning, etc. Be sure that everyone is being fairly still, and be very careful not to blow towards the container as you blow the bubbles. Even the slightest breeze can blow away the carbon dioxide.
AWESOME!!
I sooooooo wont to try that! it is so cool! I want to see them float and maybe add something to it, like catch them with the wand and blow them even BIGGER! But, will that even work?
Bubbles and dry ice
We did this while we still had some dry ice left from the cloud chamber experiment. We got the bubbles to bounce and float with the vinegar and baking soda, and then with some pieces of dry ice mixed in. We did not get any bubbles to freeze but we did see additional bubbles form and grow around the small pieces of dry ice. This was a lot of fun to watch!
dryice
i know it is sooo cool i went to the boo at the zoo and we put gloves on and they blew dry ice and we held it it was AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks for listening
wow!!!!!
that was really cool.I'm totally going to try that now

im so going to try that im so goinging to
don't see why you shouldn't
I don't see why you shouldn't try it. It looks really fun! In fact, I might try to try it, too!
awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that is so awesome!
problem

Re: problem
Try clearing your cache, and see if that helps. If not, email me so I can get more information.

that is awesome!
that is just sooooooooooooo awesome! if you have a baloon filled with carbon dioxide and then put your mouth on the nozzle and let go of the neck of the balloon and let the carbon dioxide go into your mouth and then talk, your voice will sound all weird! thanks for another cool video!
Floating bubbles sink
And if you are able to keep your floating bubble intact it eventually sinks lower and lower as the CO2 permeates through the bubble wall and makes it heavier(I think). The colour/color of the bubble film goes golden as the bubble wall gets thinner. Great to watch!
RE: Floating bubbles sink
Great comment! Have you tried it with dry ice? As they sink, they eventually touch the dry ice and will sometimes freeze instead of popping.
So cool!
Thanks for being so clear every step of the way! I've tried it before but without success, not realising where I've gone wrong. Now I know why and will be keen to try this out again. Thanks!
Problem
I can't see the video, the screen just goes black, I have vista.
Re: Problem
It sounds like you are using Internet Explorer 8. Turn on "Compatibility View" and the videos will play with no problem.
Thanks this is great!
Thanks this is a really great experiment with simple products that young children can enjoy. Teaches them that things are there that you can't see!

Bubbles not floating
The bubble maker added too much liquid to the bubbles, making them too heavy. The bubble wand added less liquid, so the bubbles floated.
bubble wand
Thanks for explaining! I was wondering why it didn't work. I thought maybe it was blowing the carbon dioxide out of the box.
bubbles not floating
so why didn't it work with the bubble maker?
