Igneous Sugar

Once you understand the general idea of intrusive and extrusive rocks, it helps to see the process in action. If you don't happen to have a volcano nearby, there is a fun, easy, and tasty way that you can explore the difference between how rocks form from magma and lava.

making crystals

this is a cool project it also made me very hungry

i do not know what to put for the subject!

We did that this morning and the ones that are supposed to take longer immediately started turning into crystals! We had not put the lid on yet. 5 minutes later after we put it into cake pans,we could touch it as long as we did not press at all. I pressed slightly and so I got a small taste. We made two plastic containers and two cake pans without doubling the recipe. We put food coloring in one cake pan and in one plastic container and the others we left white. They are still drying.

Posted by a kid.

P.S. Do not put more than 3 or 4 drops of food coloring. I put three in one and it did not look like that was to much. I would not suggest putting more then 4.

Great! Don't worry that they

Great! Don't worry that they started to crystallize quickly. Just let them grow. Let me know how it turns out.

worked nicely!

They worked nicely and when we got one of the plastic containers out the bottom was very smooth. I really liked this experiment.
