Without seeing your setup, my guess would be that the magnet you used to magnetize the needle was marked incorrectly. Use the other end of the needle as the north pole of your compass.

I saw the video about the compass i learned that the compass has a north pole and a south pole. it has opposites attract like charges repel.

Thank-you for all your wonderful videos! I teach Science to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students with special needs. Although I am the only Science teacher for these students who are not in the general education classes, I teach them without classroom books or laboratories.
The ability to insert your videos within a lesson make it possible for my students to actually see some wonderful and exciting experiments. The last two years you have been another 'teacher' in my classroom.
