This has been driving me nuts for years. Thanks for providing such a clear refutation of the error.
Thanks also for showing me that I need to use a large capacity vase with a narrow neck. I wanted to show students that the water doesn't rise until after the candle goes out, but I used jars and tumblers, and the candle went out too quickly, or the water rise wasn't very perceptible. I didn't think of using a vase. Thanks again!
