This bird has a difficult time finding the nesting material that it used in the past. What is the bird, and what does it like to use for its nest?
Answer:
This was a tricky one. This is a Ferrunginous Hawk, but they are usually white and brown. This is the dark morph, which I had never seen before our move to Utah. While bison were common, Ferrunginous Hawks preferred using bison bones and hair to construct their nests. With the decline of wild bison, they have switched to other nesting materials.
