Velvet ants are actually solitary wasps. There were so many of these around the Cactus Bee tubes that at first I thought they were making the tubes. Why were they attracted to the tubes?

The velvet ants were laying eggs in the tubes with the cactus bee eggs. When they hatch, the velvet ant larvae will eat the cactus bee larvae.
