This beautiful little bird stopped off in our garden today, on his way to Mexico. What does he have in common with a Storm-Petrel, a Plover, a Phalarope, and a Snipe?
Answer:
This is a Wilson's Warbler, and like the Wilson's Storm-Petrel, Wilson'sPlover, Wilson's Phalarope, and Wilson's Snipe, it was named after American ornithologist Alexander Wilson. He was the first to describe this species, and named it after himself. Some of the others were named in honor of his work in Ornithology.
