A preserve near Johannesburg has a new idea to prevent poaching of rhino horns. What is it?
Answer:
The horns are being injected with toxins. Since the horn is not living tissue, it does not hurt the rhino at all, but if someone used the horn to make dietary supplements (the main reason for rhino poaching), anyone who takes the illegal supplement would get very sick. Once poachers know that the rhinos have toxic horns, it is hoped that they will stop killing the rhinos.
