This experiment comes from a question sent to me by a subscriber and her daughter. They wanted to know why plastic cling wrap clings. I thought I knew the answer until I began experimenting. That lead to more research and all sorts of interesting things. To follow along, you will need:
For this experiment, I thought we would do a simple one, but one that always entertains people. As with many other science experiments, it is simple to do, but the more observant you are, the more you will learn about static electricity.
In the Sorting Salt and Pepper video we saw that we could mix salt and pepper into a pile and then separate them easily by using the static charge on a balloon. That is one way to separate salt and pepper, but there are many others. How many can you think of? Don't read any more until you have spent some time thinking of as many different ways as you can.
