I photographed this Violet-Green Swallow at Craters of the Moon National Park. Some birds, including swallows, have a very special adaptation for their eyes. What is it?

Answer:

Each eye has two fovea, the part of the retina where you see things in sharp focus. One fovea focuses straight ahead, while the other focuses to the side. Imagine being able to read a book that is in front of you, while clearly watching the television that is off to your right, and at the same time, watching the birds outside the window to your left, and seeing them all in focus simultaneously.
