Spanish moss is actually a Bromeliad, a group of plants that also includes pineapples. Spanish moss is the only bromeliad that occurs naturally north of the topics in the Americas. It has small, yellow-brown flowers, and is an epiphyte, which means that it gets its water and nutrients from from rain and the air, instead of from the soil, like most other plants.
