Rhino horns are made up entirely of keratin, where other animals' horns have a core made of bone. When I was in school, we were told that their horn was really made of hair, but while it is made up of keratin (the same material as hair and fingernails), it is not hair. The horns are used for many medical purposes in alternative medicine, but chemically, they are the same as chewing your fingernails.
