This lizard can change colors, ranging from bright green to almost black. Why is this one green?

Answer:

This is a Green Anole, sometimes called an American Chameleon, although it is not really a Chameleon. True Chameleons change their color to match their surroundings. Green Anoles change their color depending on temperature and mood. This one is warm and alert, either happy, hunting, or aggressive. If they are cold, relaxed, or sleepy, their color darkens and becomes brown or gray.
