What is unusual about the courtship behavior of this bird?
Answer:
This is a Common Moorhen. With most birds, the males compete with each other for the females. With Moorhens, the females are the ones that compete. The largest, strongest females get to choose their mates, and they select the smallest male that they can find. The male selects the nesting site, but the female does the actual work of building the nest. Once the eggs are laid, the male is mainly responsible for incubating the eggs.
