I picked these up on the beach at Perdido Key, Florida. What are they?
Answer:
These are tar balls from an oil spill in the Gulf coast. It was interesting that they are not sticky, and that they had almost no smell. While I held these for the photo, you really should not touch them, as they contain toxic chemicals that can be absorbed through the skin. Luckily, the majority of the volatile parts have evaporated away.
