Recent studies have shown that marmots that are bullied by other marmots also get much more attention from the group as a whole. In the marmot world, this results in more social interactions, and a better chance of finding a mate. Even more interesting, it seems that this tendency to be bullied and to tolerate it is genetic, allowing the trait to be passed on to future generations.
