With electricity, you commonly hear that it's the amps that hurt you, not the voltage. Then why do we see signs that say, "Danger! High Voltage!"

Answer:

Even the low voltage of household current can be fatal. High voltages have an added danger. With high voltage, electricity can leap through the air as a spark. The higher the voltage, the farther the spark can jump. High voltage signs warn that you don't actually have to touch the object to be shocked. Even getting close can let the spark jump out to you.
