I took this photo in Yellowstone National Park. Why do coyotes like badgers?

Answer:

Coyotes and badgers sometimes work together when hunting ground squirrels, prairie dogs, and marmots. When the coyote chases them, some of them escape into their burrows. When the badger is trying to dig the creatures out of their burrows, they sometimes escape and run away, to be caught by the coyote.

While they cooperate in hunting, they don't share their catch. Whoever catches it, eats it. Still, working together, the team is successful about 33% more often than either working alone.
