My nephew Zack and his wife Ashley spotted this sea turtle on the beach in St. Augustine. The barnacles and the turtle have a symbiotic relationship. What does that mean?
Answer:
Way back in the Dark Ages, when I was in school, we were taught that in a symbiotic relationship, both organisms benefited. Actually, only one has to benefit for it to by symbiotic. If they both benefit, it is called Mutualism. If only one benefits, and the other is not hurt, it is called Commensalism. If one benefits, and the other is harmed, it is called Parasitism. All three are symbiotic relationships.
