Spiders can spin more than one kind of silk. How many different kinds are there?
Answer:
There are at least seven different kinds, produced by different glands with different chemical compositions. No known spider produces all seven kinds. Different kinds are used for web supports, the sticky spiral strands, radial sticky strands, wrapping prey, ballooning, temporary web repairs, and two different kinds for egg cases. They vary in strength, elasticity, thickness, and stickiness.
