Answer:
While many mammals can carry bubonic plague, Prairie Dogs are particularly susceptible. In several places on our travels, we have seen signs warning that plague has been reported in the Prairie Dog population. To get it from them, you would have to be bitten by a flea that had previously bitten an infected Prairie Dog.
