Blue Jays are especially good at mimicking a specific group of birds. Which birds do they imitate most?
Answer:
While Blue Jays mimic many sounds, the birds they imitate the most are hawks. They have been observed making "hawk calls" as a warning that hawks are nearby, but they have also been observed using "hawk calls" to scare other birds from a food source, letting the Blue Jay get the food instead. The Blue Jays in our yard seem to do it to see how many times I will grab the camera, hoping to photograph a hawk.
