The second major tree from the left has quite a few shelf fungi growing on it. That fungus is a sure sign that the tree is dead or dying, and that makes the tree a perfect food supply for the many beetles, grubs, and other insects that woodpeckers eat. This tree is a particular favorite of the local Red Headed Woodpeckers.
