Why do pit vipers such as Rattlesnakes and Copperheads use venom instead of constricting their prey?
Answer:
Constricting prey is a dangerous job. Snakes are frequently injured, and sometimes killed by the prey they are trying to suffocate. With venom, the snake gives the prey a quick bite, and then follows it until it dies. Venom is a much safer way to get a meal.
