small and large measuring cups
Both of these measuring cups are marked accurately, but one is more accurate than the other for measuring. Which is more accurate, and why?

Answer:

Look closely at the two containers. Pay attention to the marks on each for 100 ml and 200 ml. The two lines are much farther apart on the smaller cup, which gives you much more precision in measuring, and it reduces any error caused by the meniscus (water that curves up the edge of the container).

The smaller cup is also more accurate. Because the lines are farther apart on the smaller cup, it is the same as having thinner lines, which gives more accuracy. If you scaled the smaller cup down until its 100 and 200 ml marks were the same distance apart as the large cup, its lines would be about 1/3 the thickness, giving you a more accurate measurement.
