Orchids are very difficult to grow from seeds. Why?

Answer:

Orchid seeds are very unusual. They do not have the stored nutrients that other seeds have. This makes them microscopically small. They also require special fungi that will attach to their roots when they sprout. The fungi provide food for the young orchid plant. Without the fungi and the proper amount of moisture and nutrients, the young plant will not survive, making it very difficult to grow them from seeds.
