We can use wind energy to produce electricity, but where does the wind get its energy?

Answer:

Wind is driven by uneven heating of the Earth's surface by the Sun. The equator is heated more than the poles. Land heats up faster and cools off faster than water. The uneven heating sets up convection cells, where warm air rises, and cooler air moves in to take its place. The energy of that moving air can be used to turn a windmill, move a sailing ship, or fly a kite.
