Most people have seen clouds that let spotlights of sunlight shine through. Although it is a familiar sight, most people don't know the technical term for them. What is it?

Answer:

These are known as crepuscular rays. Crepuscular means twilight, and although crepuscular rays can be seen pretty much any time during the day, they are most often seen in the early morning or late evening. This is the view from our front porch, where we sit to watch the sunset most nights.
