I photographed this lizard in our garden. It is a very strange creature. What is so strange about it?
Answer:
This is a Plateau Striped Whiptail. Like several other species of Whiptail lizards, the Plateau Striped Whiptail is parthenogenic, reproducing without any males. All Plateau Striped Whiptails are female. Their eggs develop without fertilization into offspring that are genetically the same as their mother.
