Our cat Keykey brought this little fellow in for a visit. He was unharmed, and was carried up the canyon to be released after his photo session. I was VERY tempted to keep him in hopes of observing his amazing behavior. What does he do that is so unusual?
Answer:
This is a Grasshopper Mouse. Unlike most other mice, it is a carnivore. It stalks and eats insects, scorpions, and even other mice. The behavior that I REALLY want to see has to do with the way they announce their territory. They howl. It has to be seen to be truly appreciated. I don't have my own video footage yet, but you can see (and hear) it on Youtube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izizsAodOCk
