This is the eye of a mule deer, but based on the shape of the pupil, it could also have been a goat, a sheep, a horse, or even a toad. Well, maybe not a toad, although they also have rectangular pupils. This is a common adaptation in prey animals, giving them a panoramic field of view to watch for predators in many directions at once.
