The common name of this insect is "clown beetle". How did it get that name?

Pinacate beetles are often called Clown Beetles, because of their defensive posture. They look like they are standing on their head, looking clown-like. Actually, the beetle is warning you that it will defend itself by spraying a bad smelling fluid from its abdomen, which gives it its other common name, Stink Beetle.
