I did not get any photos of Whooping Cranes, unless you count tiny, white dots in the distance. I did get some nice shots of their relatives. How did this bird get its name?

This is a Sandhill Crane. Their name comes from the Sandhills of Nebraska, where several hundred thousand cranes gather each year during their migration.
