The Alligator's range extends quite a way north of Florida and the Gulf Coast, which means they have to deal with freezing temperatures. What unusual strategy do they use to survive freezing ponds?
Answer:
If they are in a pond that is starting to freeze, they will stick just their nostrils out into the air, so they can breath. The upper part of their body gets frozen into the ice, but the warmer water underneath keeps them from freezing.
