Giant Anteater
This marvelous creature has several special adaptations for eating its favorite food. What are they?

Answer:

Giant Anteaters have many adaptations that help them specialize in eating ants. Their long snout, and long, thin tongue let them reach into ant and termite nests. Their tongues are coated with a sticky saliva to collect the ants. They eat very quickly, moving their tongues in and out up to 150 times per minute. Their strong front feet have sharp claws for opening ant and termite nests. With all of these adaptations, they still don't get much energy from the amount of ants they can eat, so they have very slow metabolisms, and one of the lowest body temperatures of any mammal. They have an excellent sense of smell for detecting ants. They have no teeth, but crush the ants with its mouth, and it swallows small stones that continue the process in their stomachs.
