Why does this snake have blue eyes?

I photographed this snake at Ginny Springs. I was using the Micro lens on my Nikon D90 at the time, so I was only about 4 inches from the snake when I took this shot. How much danger was I in?

Unlike most lizards, this gecko does not have eyelids. What special adaptations does it have to deal with this?

Even hiding in this bush, with only its head showing, we can tell exactly what species this lizard is. What is it, and how do you know?
